Better Late Than Never: The Oscar Debriefing

My friends and me at the Oscar Party
The girls and I in our dress clothes for the party!

I guess it’s better late than never that I write this post. With school, work, and Hamlet, things are a little crazy in my life and as such sadly sometimes my blog suffers. I promise there will be more updates in the very near future. Promise.

With that out of the way, let’s move on to the real reason for this post. My Oscar debrief.

This year to honor the fact that I’ve decided to try and pursue a career in filmmaking in the very near future, I threw an Oscars party for a few of my friends (Esther, Jackie, Eliza, Rocio and myself to be exact). We had food, lots of champagne and cocktails, and we even voted for our favorites. Points were given out if the movie you voted for won. This of course means that Rocio won by a landslide of 3 points above the rest of us. I also spent a good amount of time texting with Cait and live blogging the event as we sat on the couch. Overall, the party was a really great time.

But, I figure that’s not why you all are actually reading this blog post. No. You want to know what I thought about the awards given out.

Honestly, I thought some of them were rather predictable. Don’t get me wrong, this doesn’t mean that I’m not happy that some of the winners won. I’m perfectly happy that The Artist took home Best Picture as it truly was a nod to the films of the past, but I just saw it coming. It had won the Golden Globe and the BAFTA before this award…so it was obvious.  And that’s how I felt most of the awards were.

Yes, there were a few awards that upset me. The Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for example. I really thought Gary Oldman deserved that award, but that’s just personal opinion. I’m not crying foul over Jean Dujardin winning, just stating an opinion.

I’m not going to drag this post on too much longer as the awards were over a week ago. I think that because I had really followed the awards season this year it was much easier to see right out what was going to win. The best part was enjoying the show with my friends as we commented on what won, why we thought it should/shouldn’t have won and imagining that one day I’ll be there. Next year will be very exciting. I can’t wait to do this again.

P.S.- The full list of winners can be found here.
